September is always insane, filled with birthdays and the return to school and activities for the Siplings. Somehow we survived and… dare I say thrived! Here’s what we got up to over the course of the month:
En route to Tobiano for the Labour Day long weekend, we stopped at the Boston Pizza in Hope for dinner, taking advantage of their free kid’s meals throughout September. Once again, I had the Smash Burger Pizza, an limited menu item that I’ve enjoyed previously. I have to note, I love BP fries, which I stole from a full Boy Sip. They were particularly good in the honey dill sauce Mrs. Sip was given as part of her Pizza Flight order.
On our return home, we popped into Sidekick Brewing, which was offering a $25 Sando & Beer Monday special. I selected the Pork Cubano with Hardbite Chips, paired with the Fresh Kicks #2 Hazy IPA. My meal was good, while Mrs. Sip went with the Classic Pepperoni Detroit-style pizza and the Siplings tackled the One-Pound Sharable Giant Pretzel.

Back at home and needing to restock my vodka soda pantry, I bought the Vizzy Hard Seltzer Signature Pack (Blackberry Lemon, Papaya Passionfruit, Watermelon Strawberry, Raspberry Tangerine), as it was on sale for $45, down from $57. The flavours are interesting, with the latter two being my favourites of the bunch. Another new addition was the bottle of Jim Beam Black (aged seven years) Mrs. Sip brought me back from her coastal cruise.
My birthday this year was a lot of fun. Taking the day off work, Mrs. Sip and I had lunch at Kelly O’Bryans, drawn in by their birthday meal discount ($20 off at lunch, $30 off at dinner), which has become a tradition for the Sip Advisor. It was great to get away just the two of us, which is increasingly rare. Over our feast, which saw me order the Tuna Poke Bowl and nibble at Mrs. Sip’s Chicken Lips N’ Fries, I had a pair of Steel & Oak Red Pilsners, which were on special that day.
For dinner, we hit Triple O’s for takeout Original Burgers, although I was shocked to see how much this Tuesday deal has increased. $8 for just the burger, it used to be more of a bargain. In between the meals, we watched Coyote vs. ACME, which I highly recommend. The wonderful day was capped with tickets to Christoper Titus in Vancouver from Mrs. Sip.

With the fall season creeping up on us, it was time to hit a pumpkin patch with friends and all the kids in tow. I joked I’d be happier making the trek if there was a beer garden and we were all happily surprised to learn that Laity Farms in Maple Ridge has added just that, in the form of The Patch Brewery. Here, I had bites of the Oktoberfest Pretzel, Chicken Bites and Hawaiian Pizza. To drink, Mrs. Sip and I shared the Oktoberfest Lager, Pumpkin Patch Pumpkin Ale and Fat Tractor Juicy IPA. Best of all, there was an area for the kids to play to their heart’s content, while the adults could sit back and relax a bit.
To close the month, we checked out the Capital City Arcade for the first time. They were offering $20 for all day play on Truth and Reconciliation Day. We spent over two hours playing the retro games and it was great seeing the Siplings play and enjoy titles I grew up with. I particularly loved playing Smash TV with Boy Sip, all the while sipping on a Pabst Blue Ribbon, as the arcade is licensed.
That wraps a busy and eventful September. October looks to be just as active, thanks to the ramping up of activities and the always frantic Halloween season.
